execute this after installing new classes or style files:¹⁾ texhash

shows the search path in TeX variable TEXMF:²⁾ kpsewhich --expand-var '$TEXMF'

shows the search path where makeindex looks for *.ist files: kpsewhich --show-path ist

~/texmf: private root directory for TeX files (see also output of kpsewhich --expand-var '$TEXMFHOME')

/etc/texmf/texmf.cnf: TeX (Live) and Kpathsea configuration file (a generated file, see man update-texmf)

/etc/tex4ht/tex4ht.env: TeX4ht configuration file
